Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

Application is now ongoing for the Government of Canada Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2020 focused on outstanding postgraduate students from around the world. The scholarship is valued at $50,000 per year per awardee for three years during doctoral studies and is based on three equally weighted selection criteria: Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership.

The Government of Canada founded the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to reinforce Canada’s capacity to attract and retain high-quality doctoral students and  Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Vanier Scholars showcases leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health.

Eligibility and Criteria for selection

Applicants who wish to be considered eligible for the Government of Canada Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2020/21 must meet the following criteria;

  • Academic Excellence
  • Research Potential
  • Leadership (potential and demonstrated ability)

  • Permanent residents of Canada
  • Foreign citizens

How to apply for the Government of Canada Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2020

A nomination process is involved in the application process. Candidates have to be nominated by a Canadian institution with an allowance (i.e., a proposed number of applications that can be presented to the national competition) to host Vanier scholars. Application Deadlines

July – November 2020: Applicants seek a nominating institution, prepare and submit an application package.

Internal Deadline (differs): Deadline to apply to the nominating institution. Applicants should contact the nominating institution for a specific date.

November 3, 2020 (20:00 EST): Deadline for institutions to submit nominations to the Vanier CGS program.

November 2020 – March 2021: Review and evaluation of nominations.

Early April 2021: Anticipated notification of results. Nominees will be notified via email when the results are available on ResearchNet.

May 1 2021, September 1 2021, or January 1, 2022: Payments begin.
